Miracles Before Breakfast!
For a long time, I had dreamed of a well-maintained classic car with the vibe of the 1950s. I pondered various options and gathered information about my favorites.
I wanted to live my dream life during my free time, like in a wonderland. Spend leisurely summer days and evenings. A classic car that would always have a great atmosphere—and wings of its own!
A road cruiser that would glide smoothly with an automatic transmission as I drove to photo shoots and picnic trips. A car to cruise comfortably on nature outings, to the seaside or countryside, whether alone or with good company. With a picnic basket in the car containing homemade apple or rhubarb pie and a sketchbook.
I’m also a fan of fast muscle cars, but for years I’d had a strong feeling that I should also have a lovely classic!
One Saturday morning in late summer 2024, I sat down in the kitchen and suddenly the car of my dreams appeared on my phone screen! The ad had just been posted online! And I saw it right then! Could this really be so wonderful?!?
Breakfast had to wait. I needed more information! I called immediately, asked questions. I learned that the car had only had one owner in California until about 2010! Then it moved to Sweden, where it had mostly been stored indoors and always kept warm. The car had only recently arrived in Finland and had mostly been kept in storage. Yet it had already been museum-registered as fully functional! Yes! I wanted to see this car.
Luck was also on my side regarding the location! A short trip to Vantaa. I was viewing the car about 15 minutes later! I inspected it; under the hood everything was tidy, parts looked good, the lovely Torqueflite push-button gears and heating knobs for winter—amazing!
Started the car! Went for a test drive. The car felt exactly how I wanted it to—wonderfully smooth. It even had power steering; I didn’t have to turn the wheel like a truck, but it turned softly—awesome!
I parked the car, made an offer that prompted a phone call. And, shortly after, I found myself shaking hands as the happy new owner of the car.
The seller also felt so good seeing how perfectly the car suited me that he asked to take a picture of me with my car! Such a wonderful community and important friends I have gratefully met through this hobby!
