An Escort that has been known in our circle since new. Around the turn of the 2000s, it was converted into a rally sprint car and came into our possession in 2019 — in parts and as a rolling shell without any wiring, painted with a brush. The car underwent a total of 217 hours of bodywork before going to the painter. The old racing technology was updated to a more modern setup, including swapping twin carburetors for throttle bodies and installing adjustable engine management.
Now registered with civilian plates, the Escort serves as a hobby car, with its racing history still visible. The technology remains the same tuned Ford 2.0 OHC engine from its racing days, Type 9 gearbox, Volvo 240 rear axle with four-link suspension and Panhard rod, roll cage, and more.
There’s a video series on YouTube about the build and ongoing modifications titled “Kisoista Kadulle” (From Races to Streets).
