Owner's Gems 2025
In cooperation with Valvoline
To its owner, a cherished vehicle—a “gem”—can be anything from a humble barn find or a rugged workhorse to a meticulously restored rarity. The only requirement is that it must be at least 25 years old! What truly matters in this competition is the compelling story behind it. Why is this particular vehicle especially important to its owner?
A total of 70 vehicles, each important to their owner, were entered into the 2025 competition. You can view them all here.
THIS IS HOW THE OWNER’S GEM IS CHOSEN:
- Owners submitted their gems during February. A total of 70 vehicles were entered for 2025.
- The public vote for the finalists was open online from March 5 to March 31, 2025. A total of 4,400 votes were cast.
- The finalists were announced on April 2. The ten vehicles with the most votes made it to the final and will be on display at Classic Motorshow on May 3–4, 2025.

Solifer SM, 1977 – Jari Ukonsaari, Parhalahti
This is the very first “luikkutankki” (flap tank) SM model produced by the Bensow factory, known for making Solifer mopeds. This particular unit appears in the model’s promotional photos, the service manual, and was officially type-approved in 1977. The moped was found in poor condition in Nakkila in 2022 and

Pappatunturi moped, 1968 – Anne Ronkainen, Heinola
Once upon a time, there was a dark red 1968 Pappatunturi moped searching for a new owner in August 2022. It had a few issues: the fuel tap was leaking, the wheels had bearing problems, there were no brakes at all, and it definitely needed some cosmetic attention. However, at

Mercedes-Benz 420 SEC, 1989 – Kalle Bäckman, Lahti
Mercedes-Benz 420 SEC: An Uncle’s Legacy and the Road to Stuttgart The Mercedes-Benz 420 SEC is more than just a car to me – it’s a story of love for cars, family, and tradition. This stylish 1989 coupe, officially painted Diamond Blue, is my gentleman’s ride, more than just a

Ford Taunus Transit, 1964 – Olli Kiuru, Tampere
I first saw this Transit for sale on Nettiauto about five years ago and was instantly hooked — I had to have it. We almost closed the deal right after the first call, but surprisingly, the seller changed his mind and couldn’t bring himself to sell the Transit. I was

Ford Escort Mk1, 1975 – Esa-Pekka Saarinen and Jarkko Lapinsalo, Kuusankoski
An Escort that has been known in our circle since new. Around the turn of the 2000s, it was converted into a rally sprint car and came into our possession in 2019 — in parts and as a rolling shell without any wiring, painted with a brush. The car underwent

Fiat 124 Spider CS1, 1975 – Heikki Saloheimo, Helsinki
Fiat has seen a lot of the world. I’m passionate about Historic Endurance rallies. Since I build classic cars, I participate in races as both co-driver and mechanic. We acquired the Fiat in winter 2023 for the Badawi Trail rally. The rally took place in October 2023, lasting 17 days

Dodge Dart Seneca, 1961 – Julia Lila, Helsinki
Miracles Before Breakfast! For a long time, I had dreamed of a well-maintained classic car with the vibe of the 1950s. I pondered various options and gathered information about my favorites. I wanted to live my dream life during my free time, like in a wonderland. Spend leisurely summer days

Citroën 2CV, 1975 – Markku Honkala, Hämeenlinna
Hobby driving with a smile—for both the driver and fellow travelers. That’s what this swinging road cruiser and good-vibes ambassador, the classic moped, offers. The yellow-orange beauty in the photos was nicknamed Armand. I acquired it about three years ago from the estate of a long-time classic moped enthusiast, as

Cadillac Model K, 1907 – Markku Viitanen, Porvoo
The 1907 Cadillac Model K is a creation from the first decade of automotive development, where the brilliance of brasswork is at its finest and showcases the craftsmanship of the era. At the time, the Model K was also in a class of its own for machining precision, winning the

Cadillac Coupe DeVille, 1957 – Esa Malmström, Forssa
The Long-Awaited American Dream Over the years, I’ve owned several old vehicles. I had dreamed of American cars since I was 18, but they had always remained just dreams. Until the day came when I thought, now or never. While browsing online, I saw this year’s 1957 Cadillac in Sweden.
